The Prince arrived in Damascus on 28 April, greeted outside the city walls by a large escort of cavalry. Upon arrival in the city, the Governor General of Damascus greeted the royal party and they proceeded to the British Consulate. After lunch, they returned to their encampment just outside the city wall. Sightseeing began in earnest the following day.
