FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

Chapel of Horus on the north side of the Great Court of the Temple of Isis [Philae]

13 Mar 1862

RCIN 2700872

Here Bedford has chosen an unusual angle to photograph a section of the temple ruins. He has also included a group of young Egyptian men in the composition. They would have been posed deliberately by Bedford, having to sit motionless for anything up to 12 seconds while the negative was exposed in order not to blur the resulting image. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
