RCIN 83036

Marble fragment collected by the Prince of Wales while visiting the devastated Christian quarter in Damascus, the main site of the 1860 massacre which occurred during the Druze-Maronite conflict. The inscription reads: ‘From the remains of / the Christian Quarter / at Damascus / May, 1862. Syria.’ Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
