Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh on their wedding day, 20th November 1947.

20 Mar 1947

RCIN 2999894

Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, created Duke of Edinburgh just before his wedding, were married in Westminster Abbey. The wedding dress was designed by Norman Hartnell and was made from silk produced at Lullingstone Castle, woven in Dunfermline. The Rose of York, hand-embroidered in crystals and pearls, was a prominent feature of the dress. The wedding ring was made of a nugget of Welsh gold from the Clogau St David’s mine near Dolgellau. The same nugget has supplied gold for the wedding rings of The Queen Mother (1923), Princess Margaret (1960) and Princess Anne (1973).
