This painting was acquired by George IV as a Rembrandt portrait of Burgomaster Pancras; it is now thought to be a portrait of Rembrandt himself produced in his studio and signed with his name but executed by his pupil. Recent cleaning has revealed a sumptuously painted piece of theatre. Acquired by George IV
