The Crown Jewels

The Crown Jewels are the most complete collection of royal regalia in the world

ATTRIBUTED TO PETER OEHR I

The Plymouth Fountain

c.1640

RCIN 31742

This silver-gilt fountain shows marine scenes and figures of Neptune, Amphitrite and tritons with sea-monsters. The piece was described as the earliest example of an English wine fountain. In fact, it is German, and has been attributed to the Hamburg goldsmith Peter Oehr I. Descriptions of it in use in the seventeenth century say that it spouted coloured flames and perfumed waters.
