Pavilion, Music Room.

The Music Room at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, was specially designed for the King's Band and musical performances. When its dome, intended to optimise the acoustics, was deemed detrimental to the quality of sound, George IV immediately ordered alterations. The band occupied an alcove in the north end of the room, and behind them in a deep recess stood the organ. Rossini visited the Pavilion on 20 December 1823 and is possibly depicted in this image, directing members of the royal band in selections from his operas.
