Fragment of petrol tank from a Zeppelin

1915

RCIN 69451

This petrol tank fragment was dropped by L9 during a later raid on Skinningrove Works, North Yorkshire, on 8 September 1915. Skinningrove Works produced steel for the war effort and was therefore a target. L9 dropped nine high explosives and 12 incendiary bombs during the raid. One incendiary bomb landed on a building which contained 45,000 gallons of fuel; had it penetrated the concrete roof it would have destroyed the site.
