A Vase of Flowers

Mary Moser, along with Angelica Kauffmann, was one of two female founder members of the Royal Academy. In 1792, Queen Charlotte acquired Frogmore House near Windsor Castle and commissioned the architect (and one-time president of the Royal Academy) James Wyatt to extend it. One of the rooms in this extension – now called the Mary Moser Room – was entirely decorated in floral paintings by Moser. Some of these paintings were painted on canvas while others were painted directly upon the walls.

Moser also had the honour to serve as a drawing tutor to the daughters of George III and Queen Charlotte, a duty which she probably also carried out at Frogmore.
