Behind her, from left to right, are Albert Victor Duke of Clarence (1864-1892), Princess Alix of Hesse (1872-1918), Princess Beatrice (1857-1944) and Princess Irene of Prussia (1866-1953). This photograph was taken at Balmoral.

Pugs were a favourite breed of Queen Victoria, and she owned as many as 38 during her reign.
