The Dandenongs

The Australian artist Norma Bull studied at Melbourne University, graduating in 1929, after which she entered the National Gallery School in the same city. Bull won a scholarship to work overseas, and travelled to England in around 1937, where she remained throughout World War II, working unofficially as a war artist. After her return to Australia she established a reputation as a leading landscape painter, and was active in the conservation movement. This watercolour shows hillsides in the Dandenong Ranges National Park outside Melbourne, forested with eucalyptus trees.
