      LOUIS HAGHE (1806-85)

The performance of Macbeth in the Rubens Room, Windsor Castle, 4 February 1853.

      dated 1853

Victoria and Albert were keen theatregoers, hosting a series of plays at Windsor Castle known as the Windsor Theatricals. A temporary stage was set up in the castle and members of the court were invited to watch the latest productions featuring leading actors. The direction in which the two men in the far-right corner are looking demonstrates that it was not only the action on stage that appealed to the audience at these performances.
