Victoria and Albert chose this work to begin the fi rst of the series of nine watercolour albums. It was given to the Queen by her mother, the Duchess of Kent, as a gift in 1839. 21 watercolours by Stanley – views of their homes and places they visited – were included in the fi rst album.
