RICHARD PRINCIPAL LEITCH (1826-82)

Aston Hall, Birmingham

dated 1859

Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour | 23.0 x 33.4 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920244

The Queen and Prince Albert admired the Welsh scenery on their journey to Scotland in 1847. This watercolour was probably mounted as a souvenir in one of their albums. The wide format of the paper and soft, muted colouring used by Richardson contributes to the romantic nature of his view of the ruined castle.
