EMIL WOLFF (1802-79)

Prince Albert

1846

RCIN 2070

This statue represents the young Prince Albert’s own vision of his role as royal consort, ‘fighting the good fight’ in defence of both the Queen (represented by the figure of Victoria on his breastplate) and the country (the national symbols of the British kingdoms and of Saxony elsewhere on his armour).

Commissioned by Prince Albert in 1846 and presented to Queen Victoria at Christmas 1849
