      This engaging depiction of a servant overhearing an illicitly courting couple beneath the stairs was hung by the Prince Regent in the Little Blue Room at Carlton House. It epitomises his taste, which ranged from formal portraiture to lively genre scenes.

      Purchased by Lord Yarmouth for George IV, 1811
