Carrozza wins the Oaks

7 Jun 1957

RCIN 2943892

The Oaks, first run in 1779, is a flat horse race open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. The Queen, an acknowledged expert in both horse racing and horse breeding, has had two Oaks winners at Epsom – Carrozza in 1957 and Dunfermline in her Silver Jubilee year of 1977. In this photograph we see The Queen leading Carrozza, trained by Noel Murless and ridden by Lester Piggott, into the paddock after their victory.
