Geometrical study with a house and a tree

circa 1756

RCIN 980282

These drawings are from a group of sheets made by the young Prince of Wales as part of his education in draughtsmanship and geometry. The geometrical studies are based on those in Sebastien le Clerc’s textbook, Pratique de la Geometrie (1688). Technical drawing was considered an important skill for the prince, allowing him to understand military fortification and architecture. Known to have been placed in a portfolio at Frogmore House by Queen Charlotte in 1813 Cat. 187
