JAMES WILLIAM GILES (1801-70)
The boundary between Balmoral and Invercauld, below the Keeper's House
dated 1848RCIN 919616
This watercolour is probably a record of an expedition made by Queen Victoria in September 1848 to the Ballochbuie Forest on the boundary of the Balmoral and neighbouring Invercauld estates. Queen Victoria purchased the Ballochbuie Forest, one of the last remaining Caledonian pine forests, in 1878 when it was in danger of being cut down.
