The Family of Queen Victoria in 1887
Signed and dated 1887RCIN 400500
Queen Victoria admired Tuxen’s painting of the family of Christian IX and so commissioned a family group from him to mark her Golden Jubilee. Tuxen creates a homogenous composition, giving a liveliness and naturalness to his sitters, and a powerful dynastic image for his patron. The setting is the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.
