A gift to the Prince of Wales from Alexander II at the time of the marriage of Maria Alexandrovna to Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, on 23 January 1874. The jug is applied with the monogram of the Emperor, Maria Alexandrovna and the Prince of Wales. Punch sets of this type with applied decoration in the ‘old Russian’ style were popular presentation gifts in the 1870s and 1880s.
