At the coronation of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna, thousands of commemorative beakers were distributed to the vast crowds who assembled at Khodynka Fields in Moscow. In the crush, more than a thousand people were trampled to death. The tragedy has often been cited as an event which foretold the downfall of the imperial family.
