Parasol handle

1896 - 1908

RCIN 100312

Fabergé made cane and parasol handles of all forms, sometimes of hardstone but more often enamelled and gem-set. Parasol and cane handles were purchased by successive generations of the royal family including King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary who regularly used a gem-set yellow enamelled example. This cane handle is one of three that Queen Elizabeth purchased from Wartski in January 1947 for £75. The handle of gold is of oyster-coloured enamel and set with rose diamonds and cabochon sapphires. It terminates in a band of seed pearls. Mark of Feodor Afanassiev; gold mark of 56 zolotniks (1896-1908) Text adapted from Fabergé in the Royal Collection
