Victoria Cross : prototype.

This was probably the prototype of the Victoria Cross submitted to Queen Victoria on 4 February 1856 for her comments. The medal was die-struck in copper. The design for the hanging ‘V’, the bar and the reverse of the medal, had not yet been developed.
