John Betjeman

RCIN 451601

In the 1950s and 1960s Topolski drew a series of portraits of eminent literary figures, including this one and that of Cecil Day-Lewis displayed nearby. Topolski has chosen to depict Betjeman from below, in the act of speaking, his rapid pencil lines capturing a man who was an acclaimed broadcaster as well as a poet.
