This chandelier was probably made by a famed Viennese glass company, Lobmeyr, who received commissions across Austria and Germany. Arum lilies envelop the candle holders, which were later converted to hold electric lightbulbs, and morning glories entwine the basket. The chandelier has always hung in the Audience Chamber at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight – the private home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It might have reminded Prince Albert of his childhood home at the Rosenau in Coburg, which featured an interior décor of climbing plants and trelliswork in several of the rooms.
