Vase hollandois nouvelle forme or vase hollandois nouveau ovale

RCIN 4963

This pair are an elongated version of the single vase hollandois (displayed above). They feature two small details from a larger painting; Rendez-vous de Chasse by Carel van Falens, copied either from the original painting, which is now at the Louvre, or a faithful copy. The colours are accurately reproduced and the scenes are not reversed, which would be expected if working from an engraving. Acquired by George IV through François Benois in 1827.
