Merrymaking in a Tavern with a Couple dancing

RCIN 404813

This barn-like inn seems large enough to house an entire community with representatives of all ages, conditions and human weaknesses. This is no wedding scene, though it isolates the couple dancing in the centre; it appears rather to be a comic exploration of courtship and the relations between the sexes. Acquired by George IV in 1814 Cat. 25
