Short-bladed spear (yari)

1750 - 1850

Steel, hardwood, rattan, mother-of-pearl | 118.8 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm (whole object) | RCIN 62617

Yari were originally functional weapons for foot soldiers and these examples may once have had plainer shafts. They were probably remodelled for use in ostentatious processions to the shōgun’s court at Edo.
