VANDYK (ACTIVE 1881-1943)

Prince Takamatsu of Japan in London

27 - 27 Jun 1930

Gelatin silver print | 31.8 x 20.1 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2905574

The Emperor Shōwa’s younger brother stayed at Buckingham Palace in 1930, and he and his wife carefully selected their wardrobe to project an image of modern monarchy. These autographed portraits show the prince in western-style uniform wearing the star of the Royal Victorian Order, given to him by King George V. The princess appears in the latest Parisian fashion.
