ISHIDŌ KOREKAZU (1820-91)
Pair of slung swords (itō-maki no tachi)

These swords were almost certainly a diplomatic gift – both are signed by the master swordsmith Ishidō Korekazu, who worked for the shōgun at the capital, Edo. The intricately carved cherry blossom fittings are probably by the Gotō school, official makers to the Tokugawa shogunate.
