TŌYŌ, OKAMOTO (1891–1969)

Byōdō-in

1925-29

Gelatin silver print | 14.3 x 19.4 cm (image) | RCIN 2862258

A photograph of the North side of Byōdō-in in Uji near Kyoto, viewed across a scenic pond. The temple's Phoenix Hall (left) and rear corridor (right) are partially visible due to the image's framing. Only two of the four distinct bell-shaped windows (katōmado) on the tail corridor can be seen. Trees appear both behind and in front of the structure.
