This miniature by Holbein shows Henry Brandon, one of the sons of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, and his fourth wife Katherine. Henry leans his elbow on a table beside him, on which is inscribed his age – five.

This is one of the few portraits of children made by Holbein, and was probably commissioned by Henry’s parents, who were among the most powerful figures at the Tudor court.
