The Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, managed by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, was demolished in late 1791 to make way for a larger building. Rowlandson’s print, made as news of the planned demolition was becoming known, shows the theatre tumbling down during the performance of a play. Cat. 34
