Vases à monter

c. 1785

RCIN 253

The unusual mottled black and brown glaze of these vases was intended to simulate lacquer. They were among the works purchased by George’s Frenchborn confectioner, François Benois, during one of his buying trips to Paris. They were displayed at Carlton House in the Golden Drawing Room or Ante Room on the basement floor.

Probably purchased in 1815
