GIOVACCHINO & PIETRO BELLI (1756-1822 AND 1780-1828)

Arch of Septimius Severus

c.1808-15

RCIN 43916

Although he never experienced the traditional Grand Tour, which allowed his contemporaries to visit Rome, George nonetheless purchased souvenirs of the city. He acquired three models of the great triumphal arches which stood in the ancient Forum, recreations that included the original sculptural figures. A second model from the series features later.

Purchased in 1816
