BARTOLOMEO PASSAROTTI (1529-92)

St Jerome

Pen and ink over black chalk | RCIN 906044

Passarotti specialised in vigorous and showy pen drawings, and he probably made this large, careful sheet for a collector in Bologna. He based the pose on a sculpture of a river-god by Giambologna, part of a fountain in the Boboli Gardens, Florence.
