Just as the 1640s saw Castiglione marry the pastoral style with the Roman Grand Manner, so in subject matter he began to populate his landscapes with mythical figures and the detritus of the classical past. This pair of etchings may be minor works, but they show him to be completely at ease with this amalgam of styles and subjects.
