MARCO RICCI (BELLUNO 1676-VENICE 1730)
Herds terrified by a storm
c. 1727RCIN 991129
Blue paper was particularly associated with drawings by Venetian artists from the sixteenth century. Marco Ricci used the paper's mid-tone to add both darker wash and white highlights to this stormy scene. Such atmospheric effects are often seen in his paintings.
