The area of Castello in the east of Venice was little visited by tourists in the eighteenth century and has been redeveloped today. These drawings of the buildings on the horizon are made on long thin sheets of paper. The ship in its moorings is among the most sensitively observed studies of Canaletto's entire oeuvre.
