After meeting 'Abd al-Qadir, the Prince was taken to see the ruins of the Christian quarter in Damascus. The whole quarter had been burnt to the ground in 1860 and it was believed that more than 3,000 Christians were killed over the course of three days. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
