c.1722-6

RCIN 926013

Catesby wrote that native Americans considered the skunk’s flesh to be a delicacy, and remarked that he had eaten and enjoyed it himself. He was assisted by American tribes in his expeditions into the interior of Carolina, and wrote: ‘To the Hospitality and Assistance of these Friendly Indians, I am much indebted’.
