CONSERVATION CASE STUDY

Gold

For the exhibition Gold we worked with the furniture gilding and bookbinding conservation teams at Royal Collection Trust to look at conservation processes using gold leaf.

These silent films show the various processes involved in restoring a gold table, including preparing the ground, applying gold leaf and burnishing, and the processes involved in applying gold leaf to the edges of the pages of a book and decorating a tooled binding.

Royal Collection Trust is a charity caring for the Royal Collection, one of the world’s great art collections. Income from your visit helps us to conserve and share the Collection so that it can be enjoyed by everyone, wherever they are.
