Enchanted Pool Bowl 2016
Silver, silver gilt, river pearls, glass | 14 x 13 x 13 cm (whole object) | RCIN 99864
-
A silver bowl with a cast spray of partly-gilded bulrushes at one side; the bowl filled with river pearls, with a glass cover resembling water.
The design was inspired by a pool on the River Dee, which runs through the Balmoral Estate. The river pearls, representing the gravel on the river bed, are found naturally in freshwater oysters and were sourced from the River Tay. The bowl is the work of master chaser and silversmith, Panos Kirkos, and master polisher, Colin Golder.Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II at Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh, 8 July 2016, to mark the 150th anniversary of the company.
