The Great Mother 2013

This is a modern copy of an ancient Macedonian figure representing a mother. Her torso comes from a rectangular base, symbolising a house, and her outstretched hands are laid upon the top of the roof. There have been several original models of The Great Mother found in archaeological sites, dating to 6000-4000 BCE.

Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the Ambassador of Macedonia to the United Kingdom, Jovan Donev, during an audience at Buckingham Palace, 26 June 2013.
