Inscribed on RCIN 981651.j verso: Altanour Oct: 13. 1880 - While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 13 October 1880 the Queen visited Altanour Lodge with members of her family. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "took our luncheon, on the grass, seated on plaids, & I afterwards remained sketching for a little while. The view was so fine, where the sweeping hills crossed each other, & the Glen closed up".
