On 7 October 1865 Princess Louise made an expedition to Inverness with her sister, Princess Alice, and brother-in-law, Prince Louis of Hesse. The royal party stayed in the Caledonian Hotel before boarding the Edinburgh steamer on 9 October and sailing to Banavie along the Caladonian Canal. From there they travelled to Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and Perth, before arriving back at Balmoral on 12 October 1865. -
