A watercolour showing a view of a lake and mountains, probably Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. Trees are shown in the foreground, with the lake behind. Mountains are shown in the background.
Princess Louise stayed in Pension Wallis, Lucerne, with her mother, Queen Victoria, from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health.
This drawing is housed in an album of drawings by Princess Louise. For other items in the volume see Princess Louise Album. -
