Inscribed below mounted sheet: 1868 Aug 24: from the Queen's Sitting Room window, Hotel Furca
Princess Louise stayed in Pension Wallis, Lucerne, with her mother, Queen Victoria, from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. On 22 August 1868 the royal party made an expedition to Furca through the St. Gotthard Pass. They stayed at the Furca Hotel from 22 to 25 August 1868, making daily trips to local beauty spots.
