A watercolour showing a view of a river or lake. The body of water is shown in the foreground, with steep wooded cliffs rising up on either side. Mountains are shown in the background.
Princess Louise stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne, with her mother, Queen Victoria, from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. During their stay, the royal party often made day trips to local beauty spots.
This drawing is housed in an album of drawings by Princess Louise. For other items in the volume see Princess Louise Album. -
